Club Web Site Policy

College of Engineering Web Hosting for Affiliated Student Organizations

The College of Engineering provides free web hosting and site maintenance to student organizations officially affiliated with the College. Affiliated organizations are those recognized by the UC Davis Engineering Joint Council. The Engineering Web Design and Maintenance Services unit of Engineering Academic Computing Services provides web services for affiliated student organizations.

1. College sponsored student organizations can ask to have their web sites hosted on the College of Engineering web servers at no cost. Contact Engineering Web Design and Maintenance Services at engineeringweb@ucdavis.edu or 752-1616 for more information.
2. College sponsored student organizations can ask to have their web sites maintained by Engineering Web Design and Maintenance Services staff under the following conditions:
   1. All site maintenance will be performed by EACS. No client/student authoring on supported sites will be permitted. Only EACS staff will have authoring access to the site. Any content additions or changes would be emailed to Engineering Web Design and Maintenance Services (engineeringweb@ucdavis.edu) by authorized club representatives and we would implement the change. This is to ensure that we can maintain sites in an efficient manner using our design techniques, policies and tools.
   2. We ensure that any sites we are maintaining meet the minimum standards for handicapped accessibility.
   3. For sites that are hosted on servers other than the College web server, the Engineering Web Design staff must be provided appropriate access to files.
   4. Student organizations must provide a list of members who are authorized to request changes to their site. We will only take change requests from these individuals. When there is a change in this list, it is the responsibility of the organization to keep us informed. In the event that a change in the authorship list for a site is made from a non-authorized person, validation through the Engineering Joint Council will be required.
   5. Electing to have Engineering Web Design and Maintenance Services maintain a site should be considered to be a permanent decision. If after electing to use our maintenance services, the student organization later decides to directly maintain their own site, they may do so. However, Engineering Web Design and Maintenance Services may elect to not offer maintenance for that site in the future if the group were to seek maintenance support again.
3. There are additional web services the Engineering Web Design and Maintenance Services might be able provide. For instance, a calendar solution is possible. Special needs and feature requests should be addressed prior to using our hosting or maintenance services.
